AYSO Coaching
A coach can be the most influential person in a child’s life.

In AYSO, Positive Coaching is a fundamental philosophy because of the crucial role that a coach has. Coaching in AYSO is a chance to spend quality time with your own child but you’ll also provide an important role model for all the children on your team. In fact, the joy of coaching is so meaningful, that many AYSO coaches continue coaching long after their own children have moved on from AYSO. Soccer knowledge is a plus, but AYSO provides training and materials so that even a soccer novice can coach effectively by starting in the younger age divisions. Being a coach involves skills you probably already have in addition to specific soccer knowledge. If you are uncertain, try being an assistant coach. Your Region's Coach Administrator will be happy to try to match you up with somebody with a little more experience.

National Council for Accreditation of Coaching Education (NCACE)

NCACEThe American Youth Soccer Organization's (AYSO) is the first coaching education program to be re-accredited by the National Council for Accreditation of Coaching Education (NCACE). AYSO's coaching program is now accredited through Feb. 2016.

"Accreditation by NCACE is critically important to AYSO. Our AYSO Vision Statement challenges our coaching program to deliver a ‘world class youth soccer program that enriches children's lives,'" said AYSO's National Coach John Ouellette.  "The NCACE accreditation confirms the program's quality, brings it nationwide recognition and instills a sense of pride in our coaches and program administrators."

To receive this accreditation, AYSO's coaching program had to educate coaches in the following eight National Standards for Sport Coaches:

  1. Injuries: Prevention, Care and Management
  2. Risk Management
  3. Growth, Development and Learning
  4. Training, Conditioning and Nutrition
  5. Social/Psychological Aspects of Coaching
  6. Skills, Tactics and Strategies
  7. Teaching and Administrative Aspects
  8. Professional Preparation and Development
